the ivy that spoke french

she tiptoed ever-so-quietly through the dense woods, the forest's voice seemed to call to her, but she waited and did not speak until she saw the first shaft of light coming through the trees.
she came upon some children, her smile at seeing them rekindled memories of a childhood, not far gone, but waiting behind a hydrangea bush,
she smiled back at them, their expressions were ones of surprise but silence. "why are you here?" she asked. they just giggled and ran away. she tried to follow them, but they were too quick.
then she passed an old man, bent over, nearly to the ground with twigs and branches on his back. "he must be carrying them for firewood", i thought, "but perhaps instead he will make a fence with them; it would be very sad to burn such lovely branches".
the afternoon was so changeable. once a dark and silent room, the forest was, then turned into a lovely, breathtaking garden, filled with amazing color and vibrancy! "how can these changes be taking place in such a short time?" she wondered. lilacs and dark vegetable leaves, but then a dense thicket. then again, color followed by darkness. a symbol of life, she thought.
she was drawn to the color with great anticipation and love. it embraced her, each color like a friend from the past. the black and white shadows and scenes puzzled her in a likeable way, but she always wanted to run away from them, like the children. perhaps it is our souls that are drawn to the colors, like the images of heaven that we have deep in our hearts.
she walked and walked, finding dreams and lands filled with oddities and enchantments, but her heart searched for the children, too, who had scampered away like birds, earlier that day. "where had they gone to?" she wondered to herself.
suddenly a bird landed on a delicate twig on a bush before her. he tilted his head this way and that and then flew away, but looking back at her with the most tiny, sweet grin, she knew she was to follow him.
after running and darting through the thin trees of the woods, finally she came upon the little group of children. they were sitting upon a clearing of moss, eating a meal of bread and and tea and peaches.
she sat down with them and gave them each a ribbon. "these are for your hair, so you may look pretty and handsome". one child began to giggle again, then they all laughed hilariously, as if a huge door had opened in the forest into a bright meadow of funny flowers.
"let's go", they called to me.
i followed them and we ran to the most beautiful meadow i had ever seen. filled with bright birds and enormous flowers, it was the land i had dreampt of, all my life. and to think children would lead me there; it was a true life, a true afternoon. it was a happy day,
at last.

This is our beautiful, little Fairy Castle made from natural materials. It is such an amazing house. I will be adding more detailed video footage of the house soon, but this will give you an idea of the incredible intricacy and beauty of this forest creation!!

More beautiful photos of our Fairy House!

Here are more wonderful photographs taken by our dear friend and photographer Christy McCullough. Everytime I look at these pictures, I cannot believe how breathtakingly beautiful they are. I don't know how she captures the tiny shafts of light and little dappled areas around the Fairy House......these are just truely wondrous photographs, that really do show how beautiful this creation is!
When I look at these pictures, I remember the afternoon my husband Mike and I and our son Michael spent with Christy at the most enchanted, beautiful and peaceful park I have ever been to. I still think of that park and how magical it was. It was amazing to watch Christy photograph our treehouses and little furniture. She was so focused and intent on capturing just the right feeling of the pieces. The park was very natural, not a manicured, perfect looking park, but much of it was left natural, like what you would see if you were really just walking in the woods. Many of the trees were huge. There was a feeling of age or history about the forest there. (It was the Irvine Park, if I remember correctly). So many beautiful leaves had fallen on the forest floor. They were deep and thick and something in my soul just longed to gather up everyone of them and take them home with me. Leaves like those just have such a language, such spirit......you can just feel them talking to you. It was such a quiet, warm and beautiful day. I could have stayed there forever. The trees were old and as you can see in some of the pictures of Mike and I standing by both treehouses, there is an old tree with a "fairy home" in the base of the tree. What a magical, wonderful place. It truely was the most perfect place to photograph our houses and little furniture.
I have always wanted to have our Fairy Houses photographed in just such a place, where one could feel as if they stumbled upon a magical kingdom......houses that were made by tiny hands, perhaps little elves or gnomes or tiny fairies who were making a dwelling to stay in during the coming winter. Here, in this lovely park, that felt as if it were from a lost and enchanted land, our treehouses and little characters and their tiny furnishings could live outside the bustling world of the humans and finally feel that they have escaped to their wondrous home.
Beauty is so healing. Beauty that is pure and as moving as nature. What a true art creation nature is......nothing we can do will ever match it. But to be inspired by nature is a gift that can make us better people......it can awaken in us that child that is sleeping, that is trying to remember who they are and where the path is to the world of nature that is calling our names!!
